Pauline Modeste

The CLASS REUNION APRIL 2026 began with the vision of Pauline Modeste, a proud graduate of the Class of 1989 and one of the first students to walk the halls of the newly established St. Mark’s Secondary School. As a member of that pioneering cohort, Pauline witnessed firsthand how the school’s foundation was built not only with brick and mortar, but with values (Morality, Alacrity, Reverence, and Knowledge) that would shape generations to come.

Over the years, Pauline remained deeply connected to the legacy of St. Mark’s. She often reflected on how the school had influenced her life, and how the friendships, disciplines, and memories formed during those early days continued to resonate. But what struck her most was how much of that legacy remained untapped, unrecorded, and unreunited.

In 2025, as the 36th anniversary of her own graduation approached, Pauline was moved to reconnect—not just with her classmates, but with the wider family of early SMSS graduates. She realized that the first decade of alumni—from 1989 to 1999—formed a natural and significant chapter in the school’s history. It was not just one class that had shaped the early culture of SMSS, but a full generation of students and teachers who carried the school from its roots into the modern era.

“It felt fitting,” she shared. “We were the beginning. The first ten years were the foundation—and everyone who passed through those gates during that time helped define the culture, spirit, and legacy of SMSS.”

“This is not about nostalgia alone,” Pauline said. “It is about purpose. About building something enduring from the relationships that helped build us.”

Thanks to her leadership, alumni from across the 1990s—whether they remember morning assemblies, Tuck Shop laughter, library quiet, or the sound of chalk on board—now have a place to call home again.

And in the words we now proudly echo:
Once a Markian, always a Markian.
